Applying for Summer 2017 Financial Aid

School of Social Work graduate students who have been accepted and matriculated into the Advanced Standing Graduate degree program may apply for Financial Aid by completing the following steps:

If you have not filed a 2016-2017 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA):

  • Complete the 2016-2017 FAFSA at fafsa.ed.gov
  • Add the UCONN school code: 001417
  • Please note, this must be completed no later than June 1, 2017

If you have completed a 2016-2017 FAFSA:

Since summer sessions belong to the 2016-2017 academic year, update your 2016-2017 FAFSA by making the following corrections:

  • Add the UCONN school code: 001417
  • Change your degree to Graduate/Professional (found in the student eligibility section of the FAFSA application)
  • Change your degree level to 1st year graduate/professional (found in the student eligibility section of the FAFSA application)
  • Please note, this must be completed no later than June 1, 2017

Additional Summer Financial Aid Information

  • You must be enrolled in at least 5 credit hours during the summer if you wish to receive financial aid
  • You must complete a UCONN Summer Application in order to be eligible for financial aid for your summer courses. The application is available through Self Service.
  • Acceptance or matriculation into your program and your application for financial aid must be complete and in place NO LATER THAN JUNE 1ST 2017

Apply for FALL 2017 and SPRING 2018 Financial Aid

  • In order to apply for financial aid for fall 2017 and spring 2018, students must complete a 2017-2018 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  • Students who submit the 2017-2018 FAFSA prior to March 1, 2017 will be considered for the following types of financial aid:
    • Tuition Remission Grant
    • Federal Work-Study
    • Unsubsidized Federal Direct Stafford Loan
    • Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan
    • Private (Alternative) Loans
  • Applications are considered late if the 2017-2018 FAFSA is received and logged in by the federal processor after March 1, 2017. Late applicants will be considered for Federal Direct Stafford Loans, Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loans, and Private (Alternative) Loans only.
  • Students must be enrolled for a minimum of nine (9) credits per semester to be considered for the Uconn Social Work Grant and Federal Work-Study. Students must be enrolled for a minimum of five (5) credits per semester to be considered for Federal Direct Stafford Loans.
  • Financial aid for the academic year is disbursed in two equal installments. The first installment is generally disbursed during the fall semester and is used to pay for fall classes. The second installment is generally disbursed during the spring semester and is used to pay for spring classes. After classes are paid for each session, a refund is issued to the student to be used for additional educational expenses.
  • Questions regarding the application process or eligibility requirements should be referred to the Office of Student Financial Aid Services. A member of the client services staff will provide assistance.
