FINANCIAL AID TIPS FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN THE TEACHER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM FOR COLLEGE GRADUATES (TCPCG)

APPLY for SUMMER 2017 FINANCIAL AID

    • Students must be officially admitted to the UConn Graduate School before they will be awarded any financial aid.
    • TCPCG Students admitted in the summer 2017 term will need to complete a 2016-2017 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to June 30th, 2017 as well as a UConn Summer Financial Aid Application, which will be available for completion in the Student Administration System on March 21, 2017.
    • During the summer sessions, students enrolled in the TCPCG Program may be considered for the following types of financial aid:
      • Unsubsidized Federal Direct Stafford Loan
      • Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan
      • Private (Alternative) Loans
    • Students enrolled in the TCPCG program must be registered for a minimum of five (5) credits during the summer to be considered for summer financial aid.
    • The maximum amount of financial aid awarded will be determined by a student’s summer cost of attendance budget. The summer cost of attendance budget includes the direct cost for the actual academic credits for which a student is enrolled, as well as estimated indirect costs i.e., room, board, books and miscellaneous expenses.

APPLY for FALL 2017 and SPRING 2018 FINANCIAL AID

    • In order to apply for financial aid for fall 2017 and spring 2018, students must complete a 2017-2018 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
    • Students who submit the 2017-2018 FAFSA prior to March 1, 2017 will be considered for the following types of financial aid:
      • Federal Work-Study
      • Unsubsidized Federal Direct Stafford Loan
      • Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loan
      • Private (Alternative) Loans
    • Applications are considered late if the 2017-2018 FAFSA is received and logged in by the federal processor after March 1, 2017. Late applicants will be considered for Federal Direct Stafford Loans, Federal Direct Graduate PLUS Loans, and Private (Alternative) Loans only.
    • Students must be enrolled for a minimum of nine (9) credits per semester to be considered for the Federal Work-Study. Students must be enrolled for a minimum of five (5) credits per semester to be considered for Federal Direct Stafford Loans.
    • Financial aid for the academic year is disbursed in two equal installments. The first installment is generally disbursed during the fall semester and is used to pay for fall classes. The second installment is generally disbursed during the spring semester and is used to pay for spring classes. After classes are paid for each session, a refund is issued to the student to be used for additional educational expenses.
    • Questions regarding the application process or eligibility requirements should be referred to the Office of Student Financial Aid Services. Students should be sure to identify themselves as being enrolled in the TCPCG Program. A member of the client services staff will provide assistance.
